Tom Corps - Meet Our Operations Manager

Tom Corps - Meet our new Operations Manager:

After starting his career in Commercial Banking, Tom decided to change paths and became an Area Director for Scotland with a Property Management firm. Tom later joined our ranks in 2017 and has been an integral part of the team ever since.

Can you describe a ‘normal’ day at work?

It is my responsibility to ensure the portfolio is meeting it’s regulatory obligations and supporting the Property Managers in providing an excellent level of service.

What do you like most about your job?

I enjoy working with the Property Manager’s and developing their skills to continually improve the service we can provide along with building their knowledge.

What is the greatest thing you have learned in your career so far?

I have learned the importance of remaining calm regardless of the circumstance. Always good advice.

Where can we find you outside of work?

I can either be found at Diamond Fitness trying to regain what little fitness I had in my twenties or looking for inspiration from home improvement shops as I look to complete a full refurbishment of my house. Both of these fall by the wayside when Rangers are playing though.

What is your favourite thing to do in Edinburgh?

I really enjoy a relaxing night out with friends in the Bruntsfield area. The Apartment restaurant is a personal favourite for dinner and the Blackbird for drinks afterwards.

Despite being from Edinburgh all my life, I still look forward to the festival every August and the festivities that Christmas in Edinburgh brings. It’s a great time to get out and see the city and enjoy the buzz, safe in the knowledge that the surge in population will subside by September and January respectively.

Do you have any interesting hobbies?

I’m not sure it counts as a hobby but I do very much enjoy a long weekend break away to the north of Scotland. Pitlochry being a personal favourite.

Funniest or most embarrassing moment?

During one summer spent in my family’s spiritual home of Doncaster, Yorkshire, I was playing cricket in my grandmother’s driveway with my brother and my dad. My dad was the bowler, brother the fielder and I was batting. As my father bowled, I played a beautiful straight drive which was rising…. My dad made an attempt to catch the ball above his head and his upwards stretching motion led to his trousers dropping to his ankles. My brother and I have never laughed so hard.

Where do you see yourself in five years' time?

I’ve really enjoyed my first year or so with Cullen Property and hope to see my career continue to progress in line with Cullen Property’s own aspirations..

What are your future career goals?

I’m really keen to keep developing my own knowledge surrounding property further and am looking into the possibility of completing a masters degree in Real Estate Management and Development.

What’s your recommendation for the first place a new visitor should visit when arriving in Edinburgh and why?

I would recommend taking your pick of any of Edinburgh’s hills and take in the breath-taking views on offer.
