August festivals

August is without a doubt the best month to live in Edinburgh. With so many festivals and events taking place, there’s always something to do and see. For those of you who want a break from the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, we’ve picked out our top pick of other festivals taking place throughout the city.

Edinburgh Cocktail Festival

This is Edinburgh’s first cocktail festival, taking place daily from 12pm – 10pm until 28th August at New Waverley Square. With indoor and outdoor areas, this is the perfect setting come rain or shine to indulge in delicious cocktails. There will also be a range of street food stalls, bars, live music, markets, plus tasters and masterclasses.

Also celebrating its 70th year along with the Edinburgh Festival Fringe is the Edinburgh International Festival. Boasting a variety of shows including theatre, dance, film, opera, live music, talks and workshops, this month-long festival offers something for everyone. And, with performers coming from all over the world, you’re sure to see something special at the Edinburgh International Festival.

Edinburgh International Book Festival

One of the biggest celebrations of the written word, the Edinburgh International Book Festival returns to Charlotte Square from 12th – 28th August. Perfect for book lovers, this festival offers hundreds of events, with writers, poets, illustrators, journalists, historians and playwrights from all over the world attending.
