What's On January

It may be a new year, but Edinburgh continues to offer the very best of entertainment. Featuring an exciting new festival that fuses the traditional celebration of Burn’s night with a variety of modern events, a great dinner and a movie deal and an immersive visual experience unlike any other, this January is kicking off 2019 in style.

Movie Marathon Month, Dynamic Earth

From now until Thursday 31st January, Dynamic Earth is offering 2 movies for the price of 1 in their ShowDome when you purchase a day ticket. For those who have not visited, the ShowDome is a 360° viewing experience unlike any other. The audience is reclined so that they are looking up into the incredible high definition dome screen which offers incredible visuals and state-of-the-art surround sound technology for complete immersion. The educational films currently on offer showcase volcanoes, exploration of the stars and a journey to find evidence of alien life and some of which even feature narration from movie stars David Tennant, Ron Weasley and Rupert Grint. Dynamic Earth offer a student discount on entry all year round so remember your Student ID and if you are looking to save a few more pennies, tickets are cheaper if you buy them in advance through the website below.

Burns & Beyond

Celebrating the life of Scottish icon, Robert (Rabbie) Burns, this new festival brings with it a number of incredible events ranging from musical performances to comedy nights and, of course, Burns suppers. Not to mention the incredible installation that is The Museum of the Moon which will take over St Giles Cathedral from 21st – 26th January and, with free entry, this one is not to be missed. This is a great opportunity to learn more about traditional Scottish Culture for those who are from further afield or who simply want to enjoy a friendly and upbeat atmosphere.

Monties Monday Movie Night

Returning for 2019, Monties Monday Movie Night is a must for all film fans. For only £15 you get your cinema ticket for the Dominion cinema (a treat in itself), a main course from Montpelier’s à la carte menu, a small glass of wine, bottle of beer or soft drink and a pot of Pringles to enjoy during the film. This event takes place on Monday nights with the restaurant seating those in attendance at 17:00 before the exclusive private showing of the scheduled film at 20:10. On 21st January, the film will be Laurel and Hardy tribute, Stan and Ollie which early reviews suggest, is something quite special regardless of your background knowledge of the iconic comedy duo. This offer will continue throughout 2019 so we recommend that you keep your eyes peeled on their website for upcoming showings.
