Grassmarket Fire Beltane High 6Spring is very much in the air, so why not celebrate at one of Scotland’s biggest pagan festivals? If you’d rather shy away from burning sunlight, check out Edinburgh’s very own horror film festival and Festival of Museums.

The Beltane Fire Festival will take place on Saturday 30th April and will see upwards of 10,000 revellers descend upon Calton Hill for a myriad of carnivalesque activities. The annual Gaelic May Day festival produces some stunning displays of risqué acrobatics, giant puppetry and, of course, lots of fire.

Grab tickets here to warm yourself after a harsh winter.

From Thursday 21st to Saturday 24th April there will be a non-stop stream of horror flowing from The Filmhouse as the UK’s longest running horror film festival, Dead by Dawn, returns for its 23rd year. Attendees can expect UK premieres, shorts and classic flicks.

Tickets are available here for individual screenings or as a package for the whole festival. Who wouldn’t want to see the likes of ‘Killer Klowns from Outer Space’?

Alternatively, you can grab a dose of fascinating realism at the Festival of Museums. Edinburgh’s world renowned museums will be joining forces to host (mostly free) events from Friday 13th - Sunday 15th May.

You can check out the 50 events already listed here but rest assured there are many more to be announced.
