Valentine's Day on a budget

It’s that time of year where the shops are flooded with a wave of pink and red as Valentine’s Day fast approaches. If you’re still feeling the hit of Christmas or simply struggling to think of ideas then have no fear, we’ve researched some of the best valentines date ideas for those on a budget! As JLo famously said, “love don’t cost a thing”.

Go for a romantic stroll

Edinburgh isn’t short of walks so how about swapping Arthur’s Seat for somewhere different this Valentines weekend? Bring a picnic, a bottle of wine, plastic cups and watch the sunset over Edinburgh from Calton Hill or take a stroll up Blackford Hill and enjoy the views of Edinburgh and Arthur’s Seat.

Oh we do like to be beside the seaside

Your romantic stroll can also take you to the beach. Hop on a bus and head down to Portobello Beach and walk along the beach front. If you fancy somewhere less crowded try Cramond Beach where you can visit the remains of a Roman fort and, keeping an eye on the tide, you can even walk across the causeway to Cramond Island!

Cinema

Don’t fancy walking in the cold weather? Then how about taking a trip to the cinema? Swap your local Cineworld or Odeon for something a bit different - travel back in time to one of the oldest cinemas in Scotland at The Cameo in Tollcross or for a bit of luxury, watch the film from your very own sofa at Dominion Cinema in Morningside.

Anti-Valentine’s Day

Valentine’s Day not your thing? Why not swap romance for comedy at The Stand with Susie McCabe, Gus Lymburn, Robin Grainger and host Liam Withnail? Doors open at 7.30pm on Valentine’s Day and tickets cost £6/£5 concession. Click here to book.
