Edinburgh's top property investment experts collaborate

Property After Brexit

Advisory seminar will showcase benefits of Edinburgh as one of the UK’s top residential property investment hotspots and guide investors on maximising their portfolio to gear up for the opportunities within property after Brexit.

Edinburgh’s leading property investment experts are joining forces this week in a unique event exploring the benefits of investing in the city as well as outlining essential information for successful residential property investment to gear up for Property After Brexit.

Taking place on Thursday, 25 April 2019, in Charlotte Square, the advisory seminar features a presentation and panel discussion by senior figures from Cullen Property, Hampden & Co Bankers, Lindsays solicitors and Johnston Smillie chartered accountants. Attendees will have a chance to ask the panel specific questions covering the investment process as well as hear the latest updates on key property investment criteria and related financial, legal and tax related considerations - all of which will prove vital to prepare for opportunities presented in property after Brexit.

Steve Coyle, Managing Director of Cullen Property, says: “We are delighted to partner with some of the city’s most experienced property investment specialists. Our aim is to provide guests with the essential information required to successfully enter the property investment scene and outline how seasoned investors can maximise yields from their existing portfolios.”

“Edinburgh’s reputation as a  top UK property hotspot is driven by strong rental growth which is currently running at four times the average rate of inflation – the city’s annual average rental increase last year was 7.8%. This trend stems from a high demand for quality, centrally located property from the increasingly affluent young professional and student markets. It is expected to continue despite the impact of Brexit.”

Kenny McNeill, Tax Specialist at Johnston Smillie, says: “Despite the significant changes to tax legislation over the last few years, the buy-to-let market remains one of our largest growth areas.”

“Rather than being put off by recent tax changes, investors are instead actively looking at ways to minimise their impact, for example by operating their rental business through a limited company.  However, there is no one-size-fits-all solution for tax planning.  I would recommend that all property investors sit down with a tax adviser and talk through their options no matter whether they are an experienced landlord or entering the market for the first time.  Forward rather than retrospective planning is key.”

Graeme Hartop, CEO of Hampden & Co, states ‘In order for property investors to take full advantage of the opportunities before them, they need good advice from a range of advisers. I am delighted that Hampden & Co are working together with other key professionals to help people understand the key considerations and options when looking to make a return from the property market.”

This one-off event takes place on Thursday, 25th April, 2019 at Hampden & Co Bankers, Charlotte Square, Edinburgh and attendance is by invitation only. For more information or a copy of information presented at the event please contact Fiona Vernon on 0131 669 0333 or email fiona@nicheworks.co.uk.
