We know many of our tenants will be going away for the holidays whether it’s home to your families or flying off to a beautiful sun-soaked destination. Before you leave Edinburgh, check out these important points on keeping your flat safe while you’re away:
Lock up
It might sound obvious but make sure all windows are locked properly and doors are double locked if possible. December is one of the most common months for break-ins, so make sure your flat isn’t one of them!
Let us know
Tell your Cullen Property manager that you’re leaving and how long you are away for so we can keep an eye on the property for you.
Turn off appliances
Turn off all appliances and disconnect any electric plugs that won’t be needed while you’re away. This cuts your electricity bill and minimises the risk of fires developing.
Keep the heating on
Keep the heating on low to ensure the pipes don’t freeze or burst while you’re away.
Take your valuables with you
Consider taking valuables such as jewellery, laptops and cameras with you. It’s better to be safe than sorry.
Don’t tell everyone
Who can see your social media profile? Unless your page is private, keep your absence quiet – an empty flat could just be what burglars are looking for.
