Fantastic Gifts and Where to Find Them

Fantastic Gifts and Where to Find Them

Finding the perfect present for our loved ones is seldom an easy task. While gift vouchers can be an effective solution, they can give the impression of minimal effort. Thankfully, Edinburgh is home to a number of quirky and niche retailers full to the brim with unique, outside the box gifts, perfect for those who are impossible to buy for (you can thank us later).

Mad for Magic?

Edinburgh is often referred to as the birthplace of Harry Potter as J.K. Rowling did much of her early writing across cafes throughout the city. In celebration of this pop cultural phenomenon, there are now two stores dedicated to the wizarding world of Harry and friends, both of which sell magical gifts that are perfect for Potter mad siblings and friends, even if they are muggles.

Both very close to the Royal Mile, Diagon House can be found on Victoria Street while Museum Context can be found on Cockburn Street.

Crazy for Candles?

Looking to send home something with a Scottish flair? Then The Isle of Skye Candle Company on West Bow should definitely be on your list. With a vast Scottish collection to choose from, you can give a loved one something special they won’t find anywhere else. They are also currently running a sale on their scent of the month, which is Cinnamon, perfect for those who like to feel especially Christmassy.

Silly for Sweets?

If your Secret Santa is known for their sweet tooth, Edinburgh is full to the brim with independent confectioners that are sure to satisfy. Below is just a taste of what the city has to offer:

Raving for Retro?

With the resurgence of retro, there’s nowhere better to visit than Dragonfly. Perfect for little quirky gifts, from clothing to purses to homeware and even gifts for babies, this Broughton Street boutique is a real treat.

Looney for Tunes

Now that music is dominated by streaming services, it can be difficult to get a gift for music aficionados. However, there are several vinyl music shops in Edinburgh so why not try and find their favourite artist on vinyl as they make the perfect collectible. There is plenty of choice throughout the city and the following is just a selection from the stores on offer:
